The deal between us.

This app is published by emberlabs ("yaniv," "I," "me"). By downloading or using yaniv, you ("you," "your") agree to these terms. If you don't, the right move is not to use the app.

Yaniv uses sign in with apple. You don't pick a password, apple handles that for me. You're responsible for keeping your apple id secure and for everything that happens under your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the app (or older, depending on your country's rules about minors and online services).

Yaniv is free. Every feature, every screen, for everyone. No subscription, no trial, no premium tier, and nothing in the app is ever held behind a payment.

if you want to support the work, the app has an optional "send a chai" purchase (one to ten chai). to be very clear about what that is:

• It unlocks nothing and changes nothing in the app.
• It's entirely voluntary. Never required, never expected.
• It's a one-time in-app purchase processed by apple; I Never see your payment details, and it doesn't renew.
• It is not a charitable donation and it is not tax-deductible. Emberlabs is a business, not a charity or fundraiser.
• Billing questions and refund requests go through apple's standard processes (reportaproblem.apple.com). Refund decisions are apple's, not mine, and I can't guarantee a particular outcome.

Yaniv is a companion app. It sends you a daily reflection, shows you the parasha for the week, computes candle-lighting and Havdalah times for your location, and tracks personal ritual habits you opt into.

It is not religious counsel. It is not a rabbi. It is not a substitute for talking to your community, your family, or a mental-health professional. If you're in crisis, please reach out to a real human.

Jewish text translations and references inside the app are from Sefaria, used under their cc-by license. Hebrew dates, candle times, and holiday data come from Hebcal. Content I Wrote myself (the daily-word body, parasha "yaniv's take," voice copy) is mine and not licensed for redistribution.

by using yaniv, you agree not to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code beyond what apple permits for personal study
• Use automated tools to scrape my content or hammer my supabase
• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or its content
• Use the app to harass, target, or harm any other person or community

The yaniv name, wordmark, visual design, hand-written content, and software are mine (or licensed to me). They're protected by copyright and trademark law. You get a personal, non-transferable license to use them inside the app for as long as you use the app.

Sefaria texts inside the app are cc-by, attributed to Sefaria (Sefaria.org). Hebcal data is used per their published api terms.

Yaniv is provided "as is." I don't guarantee that candle-lighting times are correct for every halachic opinion, that holidays are calculated to your community's tradition, or that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every future iOS version.

For matters that actually matter (when to light, what to say, what's permitted on Shabbat in your tradition), ask a real rabbi or your community. The app is a nudge, not a ruling.

to the maximum extent allowed by law, my liability for any claim related to yaniv is capped at the amount you paid me, if anything, in the 12 months before the claim (for most people that's zero: yaniv is free). i'm not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits. If you're in one of those, this section applies to the maximum extent the law in your jurisdiction allows.

You can stop using yaniv anytime by deleting your account from inside the app. I can suspend or terminate access if you materially violate these terms, with notice via email when reasonable.

These terms are governed by the laws of the state of California, united states, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. For any dispute, we'll first try good-faith resolution by email. If that doesn't work, the dispute goes to binding arbitration in Los Angeles county, except for small-claims-court matters.

I may update these terms. When I do, i'll update the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be flagged inside the app. Continued use after the change means you accept the new terms.
